The appointment was made following the sudden demise of its former editor - Chamara Lakshan Kumara.

Before entering journalism, Mr. Samarakoon worked at the National Youth Services Council.

His series of articles titled as 'N Generation' while working at Lakbima were widely acclaimed.

Mr. Samarakoon has also worked as the special projects manager at the Selacine.
