Govt. refuses to probe intelligence chief – Diviana Featured

The government has refused to investigate its head of intelligence Sisira Mendis despite a call to do so by the UN Committee against Torture, ‘Divaina’ reports today (15).

UNCAT has released a 15-page torture observation report on several countries, including Sri Lanka.

The observations are based on the information provided by UN experts, government officials, human rights activists and journalists, for a one month period from November 07.

It alleges the torture of arrested persons is continuing under the present government too, and has expressed displeasure over the manner of compensation paid to victims.
