Draft of rule against Ranjan filed Featured

The attorney general today (30) handed over to the supreme court the draft of rule against deputy minister Ranjan Ramanayake over contempt of court accusations.

A three-member SC bench headed by chief justice Priyasad Depp took up the related complaints against Ramanayake by Magalkande Sudatta Thera and retired Air Force officer Sunil Perera.

A copy of the draft of rule was handed over to the respondent asking him to show cause as to why he should not be punished.

The SC said the next course of action would be announced on August 08.

The case relates to a remark by Ramanayake on August 21 last year that a majority of judges in the country and most of the lawyers in Ratnapura were corrupt.
