2 arrested over brawl after Dambulla ODI Featured

Two suspects have been arrested over a brawl that left two hospitalized with injuries at Dambulla stadium following the second one-day international against South Africa last night (01).

The injured have been identified as UNP provincial councilor Tissa Bandara Herath and a security guard of Sri Lanka Cricket.

As the fans were leaving the stadium after the match that Sri Lanka lost, someone had hit the security guard directing the traffic with a glass bottle and fled.

Police went after a youth thought to be the attacker, caught him and started beating him, when councilor Herath intervened.

Herath claims anti-riot squad members charged him with batons and belts.

The first suspect denied having carried out the bottle attack, after which a second youth was arrested.

Dambulla police are investigating the matter.
