Railway strike continues, as president’s mediation is sought Featured

Railway trade unions say they will continue their strike until a permanent solution is given to resolve their salary anomalies.

President of the stationmasters association Janaka Fernando says they want the president to mediate in the matter.

Passengers were severely inconvenienced by the strike that was launched yesterday (08) without prior notice.

The government promised to deploy additional buses to ease the effect of the strike, but the number deployed was inadequate.

Railway season tickets can be produced to travel in CTB buses free of charge.

CTB chairman Ramal Siriwardena says all their buses are now operating.

Additionally, the Army will run a special service for the convenience of the students sitting for the GCE advanced level examination.
