Activities at Galle Prison, restricted

All activities at the Galle Prison have been restricted after the death of an inmate due to meningitis. 

Accordingly, as per the strict health measures implemented subsequent to the death of a 29-year-old inmate, all new inmates slated to serve their sentences at the Galle Prison will be transferred to the Angunakolapelessa Prison.

Prisons Commissioner and Spokesman Gamini B. Dissanayake further noted that visitors will also be permitted only under strict health measures at the Galle Prison.

On 03 January, a 29-year-old resident of Kottawagama had died of meningitis, while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
