The Attorney General’s Department has not taken sufficient measures to recover a revenue amounting to Rs. 300 million, a latest report of the National Audit Office reveals.

According to the report, Rs. 90 million remains unrecovered from a period of over 10 years while Rs. over 40 million and over 30 million have not been recovered since  7-9 years and 4-6 years respectively. In addition, nearly Rs. 70 million has not been recovered from a period of 1-3 years.

It adds that the Attorney General’s Department has not collected arrears of Rs. 170 million from 13 institutions including State Corporations, Provincial Councils and banks.

The audit departments have recommended that legal action should be taken regarding these arrears without delay, and if the arrears cannot be recovered through legal means, immediate measures should be taken to write off the long term arrears, with the agreement of the Treasury.
