The air pollution has further increased in several major cities including Colombo.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) said the air quality index in many areas of the country is at a level between 150 – 200 which is unhealthy.

NBRO Environment Department’s Director Sarath Premasiri said this is a result of the influx of dust particles from the Indian peninsula along with the windy weather conditions.

Due to this, the Colombo sky was covered with smog yesterday.

The experts advised the people to cover the mouth with a mask when outdoors and stay indoors as much as possible.
