National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a direct challenge to independent presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe, demanding that he either stop making claims about Dissanayake’s alleged involvement with former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa or provide evidence to back up these assertions.
Dissanayake criticized Wickremesinghe for allegedly spreading falsehoods, particularly the claim that Dissanayake hid when Rajapaksa supposedly invited him to form a government during the country’s crisis.
He questioned the plausibility of such a scenario, asking whether Rajapaksa, along with other key figures like Basil Rajapaksa and Mahindananda Aluthgamage, would have allowed the NPP to govern.
In his challenge, Dissanayake also criticized Wickremesinghe’s earlier statements, drawing a parallel to similar remarks made by Mahinda Rajapaksa regarding the country’s stability.
He expressed skepticism about Wickremesinghe’s warnings that the country would further deteriorate if the NPP were to assume power.
