Ali Sabri Raheem suspended for a month

Puttalam District MP Ali Sabri Raheem has been suspended from parliament for a period of one month with effect from today (March 06).

The decision was handed down by the Privileges Committee, which convened to address a matter that had caused insult to the Sri Lankan Parliament.

On May 23, 2023, MP Raheem was apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with more than 3 kgs of gold worth over 70 million rupees, and a large quantity of mobile phones which he attempted to smuggle into the country. He had misused his parliamentary privileges and diplomatic passport while attempting to smuggle the aforementioned items.

Colombo Stamp Show begins today

The Colombo Stamp Show takes place from today (March 27) until March 29th at Philatelic Bureau premises, Colombo 10.

The event is organized by the Philatelic Bureau, Department of Posts.

According to that department, visitors will have the opportunity to purchase a wide range of philatelic items, including local and international vintage stamps, first-day covers, commemorative postcards, as well as rare coins and currency notes.

Special notice for Lankans in S. Korea

The Sri Lankan Embassy in South Korea has urged Sri Lankan nationals living in the country to remain vigilant over the wildfires originated in Central Uiseong County.
Issuing a statement, the Sri Lankan Embassy in South Korea has requested Sri Lankans to refrain from visiting the affected areas, as possible.

They have also been requested not to use flammable products such as barbecue equipment.

Sri Lankans facing any emergency or distress due to the wildfires have been urged to contact the Sri Lankan Embassy via the following hotlines;

High Court judge recuses from ‘Krrish Case’

Colombo High Court judge Manjula Thilakaratne today (March 27) recused himself from the ongoing ‘Krrish’ case.

The case is filed against Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa over an alleged misappropriation of Rs. 70 million related to the Krrish transaction.
