The Health Ministry has informed all hospital directors to immediately withdraw from use a stock of Prednisolone eye drops imported from India since patients have developed infections.

The Medical Supply Division of the Ministry said that the supply of the relevant medicine to the hospitals has been suspended.

This decision has been taken due to infections developed in three patients after the surgeries performed at the National Eye Hospital.

It was reported that all the equipment used for the surgeries have been sent for testing.

According to the reports received after 48 hours post-surgery, one drug has been identified as the cause of these infections.

Meanwhile, steps have been taken to close the operating theatres where infected patients were operated.
