Aragalaya activist arrested over Facebook post!

A 40-year-old activist of Aragalaya was arrested in Maharagama for posting a post on his Facebook page over the 75th Independence Day celebrations allegedly provoking the public, the Police Computer Crime Division said.

His Facebook post said, “Are you also an invited guest of the 75th Independence Day Ceremony? If so, come prepared to be drenched in Beira Lake.”

According to the police, they have arrested the suspect following a complaint that he had posted content on his Facebook page in a way that would provoke the masses during the Independence Day Ceremony.

After inspecting the contents on his Facebook account, the suspect has been arrested.

Police said the suspect has been previously arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police on several charges including forcibly entering the President’s Palace in Fort and forcibly entering the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

The suspect is to be produced in the Nugegoda Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court.
