A three-year-old girl was killed when an army bus collided with a scooter-type bike this morning (22), the Bandaragama Police said.
The deceased was a child residing at Kele Kade Road in Raigama.
The mother of the deceased girl is the accountant of Bandaragama Cooperative Society Head Office and the accident had occurred on the road in front of the office when she was coming to work with the daughter.
CCTV camera footage showed how the army bus arriving from Bandaragama towards Kesbewa carelessly drove on the right side of the road and collided with the bike.
The bystanders took immediate action to take the seriously injured girl and her mother to the Bandaragama District Hospital. The girl child had died on admission to the hospital, hospital sources said.
The mother was transferred to the Panadura Base Hospital and it was reported that she was in a state of severe shock.
Police said the helmet worn by the girl was found shattered to pieces.
The driver of the army bus has been arrested by the Bandaragama Police.
