SDIG Tennakoon said drugs are a key factor for crimes against children such as child abuse.

“If we consider Western Province – the highest populated province, we know because we have an understanding of the situation… the majority of cases have been due to the use of drugs and alcohol. Also, the use of mobile phones has become a dangerous weapon leading to child abuse.  If we are attempting to reduce child abuse in Sri Lanka, parents should definitely regulate the use of mobile phones at home,” he has added.
