Arrests made in connection with Meegoda economic centre shooting incident

The police have apprehended four individuals, including the gunman and motorcycle rider involved in the recent shooting incident at the Meegoda Economic Centre. 

Meegoda Police discovered the motorcycle, a helmet, a knife, and a t-shirt used in the incident in Kadawatha, Kirillawela.

Additionally, the firearm used in the shooting was found in the Rakwana area.

The mastermind behind the incident was found hiding in the Hambantota area, while the shooter was located in the Godakawela area, according to the police. 

Two other individuals, including the hotel owner who aided in hiding the motorcycle and another person who assisted the suspects in going into hiding after the incident, were also arrested.

The incident occurred on Monday (12) when two armed men on a motorcycle attempted to rob a shop at the Meegoda Economic Centre. 

They opened fire, injuring a female cashier in an attempt to obtain keys to one of the cash lockers. 

The suspects fled after looting one cash locker, and additional investigations are ongoing.
