Industries Minister Sunil Handuneththi has said he opposes the 15% tax on service exports from his perspective as the Industries Minister.
He had said this during a programme on the state TV – Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).
If a 15% tax is imposed on the dollar income and if this discourages the income earner from bringing that particular income to the country, it could become an issue, he said.
“Even though I oppose it… I see this from the perspective of the Industries Ministry and export revenue. However, the Finance Minister and Finance Ministry officials view it from a point of increasing tax revenue,” he said.
When asked about the government’s much hyped ‘integrated approach’, the minister admitted that such an approach doesn’t exist for every single process.
Acknowledging the contribution of digital entrepreneurs, Handuneththi stressed the need for further discussions on the matter.
