“Ashen Putha” fishing trawler seized with 468kg of drugs in Maldivian waters
A joint intelligence operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Maldivian Coast Guard led to the seizure of a Sri Lankan fishing trawler carrying 344kg of crystal methamphetamine and 124kg of cocaine.
The trawler, Ashen Putha, (Reg. No. IMUL–A–0924–MTR) was intercepted in the Maldivian Exclusive Economic Zone. Five suspects, aged 21 to 37, were apprehended.
Authorities are investigating whether the narcotics were intended for Sri Lanka or another regional destination.
