August – September ‘Aswesuma’ payments in November

State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe states that “Aswesuma” payments for the month of August will be credited to the beneficiary accounts on Wednesday (Nov. 01).

Meanwhile, the allowance for September will also be credited during the month of November, he said.

Semasinghe further expressed that the “Aswesuma” applicants who were not selected for the benefit scheme due to technical and management issues will be screened once again during “Aswesuma Week”, which is due to be held from Nov. 06 – 12 November.

Accordingly, the eligible individuals selected then will receive the benefits with effect from July 2023, the State Minister added.

He made these observations during a press conference held at the Presidential Media Centre today (30).

Fmr. state minister Diana Gamage granted bail

Former State Minister Diana Gamage has been released on bail after appearing before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court over allegedly obtaining a passport by producing false information.

She had arrived at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court earlier today over accusations of obtaining a passport by submitting false information.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had yesterday submitted a report to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, naming the former State Minister as a suspect in the case pertaining to the obtaining of a diplomatic passport after providing false information.

Accordingly, the Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage had ordered the CID to take appropriate measures and report back to the court.
