A self styled saffron-robed individual calling himself ‘Vishwa Buddha’ has been granted bail.
Taking up the case this morning (Jan. 09), the Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis ordered the 34-year-old to be released on two sureties amounting to Rs. 500,000 each.
He was arrested on Dec. 12 by the CID for behaving in a manner that was deemed offensive to Buddhism.
The CID also informed the court that Rs. 03 million has been deposited to the bank account of the suspect within the last 10 months.
The Colombo High Court has ordered the re-convening of the case filed by the Attorney General against Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa on September 26.
The case pertains to allegations that Rajapaksa received Rs. 70 million from the Indian company ‘Krrish’ under the pretext of promoting the game of rugby.
Rajapaksa, appeared before the court when the case was taken up today (June 27).
