Basil Rajapaksa, the founder of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has voiced strong opposition to any attempts to delay the country’s crucial national elections, including the Presidential Election and the Parliamentary Election.

In an exclusive interview with News 1st, Rajapaksa expressed concern about the government’s alignment, questioning whether it truly operates under the SLPP.

He highlighted that only a select few cabinet ministers visit the SLPP office, primarily from key districts.

Notably, he mentioned former minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s departure from a ministerial position.

Rajapaksa emphasized the necessity of holding a parliamentary election before any other electoral process.

He argued that conducting the parliamentary election after the presidential election might not accurately represent the people’s reality.

Rajapaksa believes that prioritizing the parliamentary election independently would establish a balanced parliament.
