The highly anticipated annual “Battle of the Blues” cricket encounter between Royal College, Colombo, and St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, kicks off today (March 06) at the SSC Stadium, Colombo.
This historic three-day match will continue on tomorrow (07) and the day after tomorrow (08), marking the 146th edition of one of the most prestigious school cricket rivalries in the world.
First played in 1879, the Royal-Thomian encounter is the second-oldest school cricket match globally and holds the distinction of being the only uninterrupted annual school cricket competition.
The teams will compete for the coveted D.S. Senanayake Memorial Shield, which Royal College has claimed 36 times, while St. Thomas’ College has secured it 35 times.
