Buddhist devotees across the world celebrate the Medin Full Moon Poya Day today (6).

The Medin Full Moon Day marks the Buddha’s first visit to Kimbulwath Nuwara at the invitation of his father King Suddhodana following the enlightenment.

It is mentioned in Buddhist history that the Buddha exhibited Yama Maha Pelahara – the twin miracle in the sky, preached the Wessanthara Jathakaya to the crowds explaining his previous life as King Wessantara and ordained Prince Rahula as a monk on this day.

Maha Prajapati Gotami Devi also attained Sovan status on Medin Poya Day.
