Current bus fares will remain unchanged even though the bus fares were scheduled to be revised from July 1, a senior official of the Transport Ministry said.
The official said that there should be an official bus fare revision in the middle of the year and accordingly, the bus fares should be increased by 7%.
However, this amount to be increased had been offset against the 10% bus fare increment implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, the minimum bus fare of Rs.30 and all other bus fares will continue to remain unchanged.
National Transport Commission Director General Thilan Miranda said that a special news briefing will be held at the Government Information Department this morning (30) to officially make the announcement.
