The program initiated by the Sri Lanka Police to trace traffic offenders in Colombo using CCTV cameras, is effective from today (Jan 22).

These CCTV cameras will be placed in 33 crucial locations in Colombo and if anyone is found guilty, fine sheets will be sent to the address of the vehicle’s registered owners.

However, the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) has opposed this programme.

Chairman of LPBOA, Gemunu Wijeratne said the bus priority lane law must be implemented if buses are to be regulated under this programme, adding that buses face issues due to other vehicles, including trishaws that travel in the bus lane.
