Businessman commits suicide after bus is seized

Remains of a businessman who had committed suicide by jumping into the Kelani river has been recovered 06 days later.

Wellampitiya police say that the body was recovered from under the ‘Kalu Paalama’ in Kotuwila, Wellampitiya.

The deceased is a 42-year old businessman named Chandra Tharaka Bandara. A son of a retired Police SP, he is also a father of two.

He had jumped into the Kelani river on Oct. 22 to end his life, dejected after his bus was seized due to not paying leasing payments. The deceased father had lodged a complaint with the Dompe police in this regard.

A brother of the deceased had identified the remains and the post mortem is to be held at a police mortuary.

Further investigations are underway.

Notice for students sitting for Grade 5 scholarships

The Department of Examinations has announced that the 2024 Grade Five Scholarship Examination will be held on September 15 this year.

It adds that applications for the examination will be accepted online from May 27 – June 14, 2024 and acceptance of applications will not be extended beyond the announced period.
