The Cabinet has approved to award ‘Sri Lankabhimanya’ title, which is awarded only once-in-a-lifetime to Sri Lankan citizens and non-Sri Lankans for rendering a great service to the country, to former Speaker Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya on the occasion of this year’s Independence Day.
Mr. Jayasuriya will be conferred with the title on February 03.
The Cabinet has approved the proposal presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to present this award to Mr. Jayasuriya in appreciation of his services.
This once-in-a-lifetime national award has been awarded to Sri Lankan citizens and non-Sri Lankans who have rendered an immense and excellent service to the nation since 1986.
