CCD officer killed during Weligama raid, promoted posthumously

Police Sergeant Upul Chaminda from the Colombo Crimes Division who was killed during a recent raid in Weligama, has been promoted posthumously to the rank of a Sub Inspector.

The Sergeant died and a Sub-Inspector was injured due to a shooting incident which occurred on December 31.

Dr. Rohan Ruwanpura, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department of the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, disclosed that there were two bullets in the lung of the Police sergeant, and they have been sent to the Government Analyst for further investigation.

The post-mortem of the deceased Police sergeant was conducted on Sunday, at the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. The Consultant Judicial Medical Officer also said that the autopsy revealed that the death of the Police sergeant was due to bleeding from gunshot injuries.
