The Constitutional Council (CC) has refused to approve the three-week extension of service given to Inspector General of Police C. D. Wickramaratne.
The CC has taken this decision when both President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Public Security Minister Tiran Alles are out of the country.
However, it was reported that President Wickremesinghe has taken steps to reappoint the IGP despite the decision taken by the CC.
The President has given all the necessary instructions from Beijing, China to implement his decision to re-appoint the IGP.
IGP Wickramaratne was given several service extensions by the President.
