The Ceylon Electricity Board has made a statement on the cascading failure of the grid on Feb. 09, leading to an islandwide blackout.
“Due to the high penetration of non-synchronous solar PV generation, the grid had a low system inertia, making it vulnerable to faults,” the CEB said in a statement.
“The disturbance resulted in an imbalance between generation and demand, leading to cascading disconnections and a total power failure.”
The statement further notes that the CEB has implemented immediate and long-term measures to strengthen grid stability.
