CEB workers to protest from tomorrow

The Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya (LVSS) announces that they will hold a series of protests throughout 03 days from tomorrow (Jan. 03) onwards.

The protests will be held against the restructuring process of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

General Secretary of the LVSS – Ranjan Jayalal states that they will urge the  minister to immediately scrap the relevant Bill.

We have taken an unanimous decision to hold a major protest demonstration in front of the CEB HQ calling to scrap the Bill. If our plea is ignored, we openly challenge the minister to bring this before Parliament. On that day, we will bring all CEB workers to their doorstep, he said.

Meanwhile, National Organizer of All Island General Fisheries Federation – Rathna Gamage has stated that the fisheries industry is facing a crisis due to the new proposed Fisheries Act.

Met. Department’s website being restored after cyber attack

The website of Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department is currently being restored after a cyber attack disrupted its services early last week, Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) says.

The cyber attack had taken place on Nov. 01, according to Senior Information Officer at SLCERT Charuka Damunopola.
“Due to this cyber attack, changes were detected on the Meteorological Department’s official website. Following preliminary investigations, necessary measures are underway to restore the website, with further inquiries ongoing to assess the full impact,” he has said.

Mr. Damunopola further confirms that initial findings indicate no data was accessed or stolen by external parties, however, SLCERT continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the website’s functionality and security are fully restored.

2 Chinese nationals arrested in Kandy

Two Chinese nationals have been arrested by the Kandy Tourist Police for allegedly engaging in business activities while visiting Sri Lanka on tourist visa.Police have arrested the two women, aged 47 and 48 at the Economic Centre in Kandy after receiving a tip-off.

They have been handed over to the Kandy Police Station for further investigations.
