The owner of the company, which allegedly used forged documents to import a batch of substandard human intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), has been remanded until November 15.
The accused known as Aruna Deepthi, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), was produced before Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court earlier today.

CID arrests one over importing substandard medicine
The owner of the company – Isolez Biotech Pharma which had allegedly imported the vials of substandard immunoglobulin, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The suspect is one Sugath Janaka Fernando alias Aruna Deepti, a 57-year-old resident of Rathdolugama area.
He is to be produced before courts today (01).
On Monday, a court had imposed overseas travel ban on the suspect, which is accused of using forged documents to import the substandard medicines, and two other high-ranking government officials who were allegedly involved in this fraudulent activity.
The relevant order was issued by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court after considering the facts presented by the CID through a motion, claiming that the concerned suspects were preparing to flee the country.
