CID summons fuel distributors today

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned fuel distributors today (04) to record statements regarding the recent disruption in fuel distribution As part of the inquiry, the Vice President and a Board Member of the Fuel Distributors Association are scheduled to provide statements to the CID at 12:30 PM.

Meanwhile, police confirm that the CID has launched an investigation based on a complaint alleging that a group, claiming to be fuel distribution agents, is deliberately obstructing fuel distribution. The complaint suggests that this disruption is intended to inconvenience the government and create public distress due to a dispute over fuel distribution discounts.

Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife and daughter have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

They have been arrested over an investigation into their assets, according to the Bribery Commission.

CMC mayor assumes duties

Vraie Cally Balthazaar of the National People’s Power (NPP) officially assumed duties as Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Mayor today (June 18).

The most talked-about candidate in the 2025 Local Government Election, Balthazaar was elected the 26th Mayor of the CMC while receiving 61 votes following a secret ballot on Monday (June 16).

She becomes the second female Mayor of CMC, following Rosy Senanayaka.
