Leader of the Opposition – Sajith Premadasa and MP Prof. L.M. Abeywickrama have been elected as Co-Chairs of the Caucus on Climate.
They were elected during the first meeting to re-establish the Caucus on Climate for the Tenth Parliament, on Jan. 08.
Furthermore, Nalin Bandara, Member of Parliament of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Asitha Niroshana Egoda Vithana, Member of Parliament of the Jathika Jana balawegaya were elected as the Deputy Co-Chairs of the Caucus.
Additionally, Rohini Kumari Wijerathna of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Anushka Thilakarathne, Attorney at Law, Member of Parliament of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya, were elected as the Co-Conveners of the Caucus.Addressing the Caucus, the Co-Chairs stated that at a time when global attention is focused on climate change, they aim to collectively discuss the impacts of climate change on Sri Lanka and the steps to be taken in response, with a view to implementing future action plans.
