A social activist by the name Wimukthi Ranasinghe has filed a complaint with the Maharagama Police yesterday (13) alleging that businessman Viraj Wickramanayake (Mr.Kottu), a former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council, has made a false complaint against him.
Ranasinghe alleged that Wickramanayake had made a false complaint to the police stating that he had demanded a ransom of Rs.500,000 from Wickramanayake and accordingly, he had to face difficulties as he was arrested.
The complaint is as follows.
In his complaint, Ranasinghe said that a disclosure was made through social media sites regarding the political activities of Wickramanayake.
Afterwards, on August 11 at around 4 pm, Wickramanayake arrived at Ranasinghe’s house with the Grama Niladhari and settled the issue.
Shortly after that, Wickramanayake made a phone call to Ranasinghe and said, “Malli, I will give you the money, please remove it,” and then hung up in 23 seconds without giving him the opportunity to speak.
Later on the afternoon of August 12, the Maharagama Police arrested Ranasinghe at his home on charges of criminal extortion. He was produced in the court yesterday (13), and then he was released on bail after pointing it out in the court that this was a false complaint.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Morning Show ‘Nuga Sevana’ had broadcast a 2-hour live show from the house of Viraj Wickramanayake (Mr. Kottu) on August 10.
