Antique vehicles that are not being used since the owners have to pay a large fine for registration will be given a concession through the Cabinet, the government said.

Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Commissioner General Nishantha Weerasinghe said it has also been recommended to provide revenue licenses for a concessionary price under this scheme.

It has been revealed that a large number of unregistered vehicles have been abandoned in homes for years since the owners have to pay large fines.

Therefore, Cabinet approval has been sought to allow such vehicles to be registered and used subject to a concessionary fee.
