A police constable attached to the Dehiwala Police has been suspended over an incident of dumping discarded building materials in the Attidiya Bird Sanctuary.
A senior police officer of the Dehiwala Police said that this constable’s tractor has been used by two other suspects to dump the stock of discarded building materials in the sanctuary.
An assistant and the driver who drove the tractor were arrested by the Wildlife officers.
The two suspects have been released on bail after being produced in the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
This constable has pressured the driver to give a fake statement stating that the tractor had been used on a lease basis and that it did not belong to the constable.
An investigation was conducted to suspend the constable after the driver revealed this to the police.
