Constitutional amendment to go for Presidential Election!

The government has made plans to bring a constitutional amendment to give power to the current President to call a Presidential Election immediately, it was reported.

According to the Constitution, an elected President can call a Presidential Election after completing his term of office for four years.

However, constitutional experts have argued that a President who is not elected has no such mandate.

Therefore, it was reported that the purpose of the new amendment is to allow current President Ranil Wickremaeinghe, who was appointed to complete the remaining tenure of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, to call the presidential election after completing four years of office since the election of the former President.

Government legal experts have already commenced a preliminary discussion in this regard.
