Contaminated wheat flour stock seized

A stock of 750 tons of wheat flour unfit for human consumption, which was being prepared for distribution, has been seized from a warehouse in the Uswetakeiyawa area, Wattala. 

The wheat flour Packages were discovered yesterday while it was being prepared for release to the market. 

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) discovered the contaminated flour during an investigation following a raid in Pettah. 

The flour packages, labeled with production dates from March and May last year and expiration dates of March and May this year, were found to be heavily infested with insects. 

Authorities warn that such expired or contaminated products could be repackaged and illegally resold. To prevent this, the CAA is taking further action to crack down on fraudulent traders. Consumers are urged to report any suspicious activities related to food safety to the Consumer Affairs Authority immediately.
