Continues raids to nab overpriced egg sellers

Raids will be conducted from today (08) in search of traders selling eggs at higher prices, the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety said.

Minister Nalin Fernando said that animal feed prices have also decreased.

Accordingly, the minister said the Consumer Affairs Authority will conduct raids to nab traders selling eggs at higher prices.

Meanwhile, the All Ceylon Poultry Businessmen’s Association said that there is a shortage of eggs in the market since many poultry businessmen have closed down the farms.

Its Chairman Ajith Gunasekara said that about 50% of poultry farms have been closed due to the current economic situation.
