Contraband container seized by Customs imported by company at Chatham Street!

A container filled with contraband including the parts of three luxury vehicles valued at nearly Rs.350 million which were illegally imported has been seized by the Customs.

The Customs officials found this consignment after they opened and inspected a suspicious container yesterday.

The container has been imported as vehicle spare parts from Dubai, UAE.

Several perfumes, cosmetics, foreign liquor, olive oil and foreign cigarettes manufactured in the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom were found in the container.

The container has been brought to Sri Lanka under the name of a company located at Chatham Street in Colombo Fort.

The Customs said the government has lost Rs.220 million due to this illegal importation.
