The Kuliyapitiya police have arrested a couple for going on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada while leaving behind their three young children at home, unsupervised.
It is reported that they had gone on the pilgrimage to fulfil a religious pledge (Baara).
Following a tipoff received by the police, the children were found locked up in the house with snacks.
The children aged 08, 05 and 03 years old, were found afflicted with fever and had been rushed to hospital.
The parents have been arrested immediately after their return and will be produced before courts soon, police say.
At the present, the mother is being kept at hospital with her children.
