The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court ordered the Director of Public Order and Management Division to submit a report within two weeks regarding the condition of tear gas and the way they were used during the protests held in Colombo.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage issued the order after taking into consideration the allegations made on behalf of NPP candidate Nimal Amarasiri who passed away following a tear gas attack on a protest organised by the National People’s Power (NPP) in Colombo on February 26.

The Magistrate’s inquiry into the death of Mr. Amarasiri was held yesterday and his son Chamara testified.

Chamara said he suspects that his father’s death may have been caused by the effect of the tear gas used by the police.
