The Epidemiology Unit requested the people to get the Sinopharm vaccine as the fourth anti-covid-19 vaccine (second booster dose) as soon as possible.
It said the risk of Covid-19 still prevalent in the country.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samita Ginige said the Epidemiology Unit is closely monitoring the spread of Covid-19 around the world.
In the recent past, the Pfizer vaccine was given as the fourth dose but the Health Ministry removed the vaccine after its expiry.
Accordingly, the authorities decided to give the Sinopharm vaccine as the fourth dose.
The people can visit any Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office and obtain the Sinopharm vaccine easily.
The country has received 26 million Sinopharm vaccines and so far 23,321,962 people have been vaccinated.
Another 2,678,038 Sinopharm vaccines are available in the country.
Therefore, Dr. Ginige said that any person who has not received COVID doses is able to get the Sinopharm vaccine.
