A number of trade unions attached to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) have decided to call in sick today (18).

They have taken this decision against the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) Amendment Bill to be presented to Parliament today (18).

Petroleum Trade Unions Alliance Spokesperson Dr. Ashoka Ranwala said the distribution of fuel can be disrupted due to the trade union action.

Meanwhile, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said petroleum services have been declared as an essential service for the last six months.

“Therefore, if any employee or trade union is found breaching the essential service regulations and disrupting services, immediate legal and disciplinary action will be taken against them,” he said in a tweet.
