Customs seize illegally imported fags

Sri Lanka customs seized a large consignment of illegally imported cigarettes yesterday (March 17), valued at Rs. 124,019,554.

Additional Director General of Customs and Media Spokesman, Seevali Arukgoda said that the consignment was discovered by officers of Customs Revenue Task Force (RTF) during an inspection at a warehouse in the Colombo Port premises.

A total of 713,000 sticks of branded cigarettes (3565 Ctns) were found in the smuggled stash which was concealed inside of 05 pallets of hollowed-out polypropylene corrugated sheets of 5mm.

The stash has been imported by a company in Padukka from the UAE, reports say.
