Mr. Rajapaksa, who was in the US, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (20) at 8.30 am via Dubai on flight 650 of the Emirates Airline.

Earlier, there were reports that he would return to Sri Lanka in January as the Supreme Court allowed the former minister to travel abroad until January 15 next year.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, State Ministers Piyal Nishantha, Prasanna Ranaweera, Sanath Nishantha, Shantha Bandara, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Johnston Fernando, Gamini Lokage, S. M. Chandrasena and Pavithra Vanniarachchi were present at the airport to welcome Mr. Rajapaksa

However, no other members of the Rajapaksa family were present to welcome him.

Speaking to media outside the airport, State Minister Sanath Nishantha said that Mr.Rajapaksa had returned to promote the party as well as to implement its future activities.

He said that this visit is a strength to the party and that the MPs need the Rajapaksas to secure votes.
