Owner of the Dedigama Group – Ranjan Malik Dedigama has filed an Anticipatory bail plea from the Colombo Chief Magistrate today (03).

Borella police OIC and the OIC of the Colombo South Division Crime Bureau In Bambalapitiya have been named as respondents.

The Anticipatory bail plea is said to have been filed due to a police investigation launched over a group vandalising a shop located at No. 1038/22, Maradana Rd, Borella and assaulting the shop owner’s husband.

According to a police complaint filed by the shop owner, the shop was initially set on fire. However, they had rebuilt the store, only for a group in a cab to arrive and vandalise it just 10 minutes after it was reopened. Her husband, who was assaulted,  was subsequently hospitalised.

Police investigations have revealed that Mr. Dedigama had given a Rs. 01 million contract to his private secretary known as ‘Ruby’ to vandalise the shop.

Police have also reported to the court that 02 employees of the Dedigama Group’s Borella branch had been present when the assault had taken place.

Although several suspects of the case have been produced before courts, the main suspect – Mr. Dedigama is said to be overseas and police had filed necessary facts to arrest him upon his return.
