Suspended former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently in remand custody at Dumbara Prison, has requested permission to receive food from outside.
Prisoners can formally request outside food, subject to approval from the Prison Superintendent.
However, it is reported that Tennakoon’s request is likely to receive approval today (March 22).
Tennakoon faces 9 serious charges in court including, include dereliction of duty as a government employee, using eight officers in an illegal assembly for criminal purposes, shooting to intimidate and conspire to cause harm, fabricating false evidence, causing harm with fire or explosives, criminal coercion, causing the death of a police officer through deliberate negligence, causing damage to public property, and committing an offense with an automatic firearm.
