Police have confirmed that the wife and son of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon have returned to one of their residences.
Upon their return, authorities recorded a statement from Tennakoon’s wife; however, police state that information regarding Deshabandu Tennakoon’s whereabouts have not been disclosed.
On February 28, 2025, the Matara Magistrate’s Court issued an open warrant for the arrest of Deshabandu Tennakoon and eight other police officers in connection with a shooting incident near the W15 Hotel in Pelena, Weligama.
Although 15 days have elapsed since the order to arrest Deshabandu Tennakoon was issued, he is yet to be found.
