The arrest, detention, and continued incarceration of Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige and Inter University Bhikku Federation (IUBF) Convener Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera over ‘illegal activities’ under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) is unreasonable and without justification, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) said.

The Commission said one of its directors and a deputy director visited the two inmates and they were concerned about the health condition of Siridhamma Thera.

The HRCSL said that action can be taken against the two arrested under the common law, and that their detention for 90 days is a violation of their fundamental rights.

It further states that this detention order should not be extended further.
